Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. Three hardcover books. All are bound in three-quarter leather, with variegated marbled paper over the boards. Dark brown leather over corners and spine, with five raised band and gold lettering. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers, with a neatly affixed bookplate inside each front cover. This set of 19th century French illustrated books are from the library of Casimir Stralem (1886 - 1932), a chief partner in Hallgarten & Co. investment bank. Books measure 9.25 x 6.5 inches. Each volume is illustrated with numerous photomechanical prints; "Voyage" also has a folding map. The leather is worn at board edges, raised bands, hinges, and tops and bottoms of the spines. The front free end paper and half title page of "La matrone" are loose, hanging on by a small thread. Binding is otherwise strong, with clean and unmarked pages. Though there is some wear to this set, they remain handsome bindings with beautiful, small illustrations. Please e-mail us with questions or to request photos.
