FIRST EDITION, photographic portraits of contributors and stills from the films (these monochrome, though the film in colour), the first 12pp. at three-quarter width, allowing the half-portraits to the fore-margins thereupon to merge with that of Hans Richter at p. [13], pp. [24], 8vo, original stapled green wrappers printed in…dark brown, the front with an illustration from Ernst's 'Une Semaine de Bonté', a little browned to edges, touch of rusting to staples internally, very good. Inscribed by John Cage at the foot of the passage describing his contribution (to Marcel Duchamp's 'Discs' sequence): 'for Haup[?], John Cage'. Hans Richter's experimental film, produced by Peggy Guggenheim and Kenneth Macpherson, is a series of vignettes based around the figure of Joe, the Dream Salesman, with each of the sequences a collaboration with an impressive group of artists and musicians: Max Ernst, Fernand Léger, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, and Alexander Calder, as well as Richter himself, with music by Darius Milhaud, David Diamond, Louis Applebaum, Paul Bowles, and John Cage.
