Hardcover in Good-plus condition, small 8vo, pages: 425,6 ads, Brown cloth with elaborate bline-stamped botanical border, gold decoration on top board, spine titles and decoration in gold, yellow end-papers, frontis and 5 hand-colored illustrations by Leech (as called for) with tissues (note: plates are at different locations from what is listed on the List of Illustrations page, which is not uncommon with this title). Hbk, 667pp, originally published in 1843, this edition limited to 1050 numbered copies issued for America of which this is number 51, color frontis + 16 full-page color plates and many b+w illustrns in the text, no dj as issued, very good, beveled red cloth boards, slightly faded at the spine, gilt spine titles on a black label, now in custom acetate jacket, internally a fine, clean, tight and unmarked text, becoming harder to find.

Hbk facsimile of the 1838 Bradbury and Evans edition, Volume 1: 265pp; Volume 2: 266-557pp, of an edition of 950 copies these are number 229, royal 8vo, rough-cut edges, illustr 69 full-page b+w engravings, no djs as issued, red cloth boards with paper-spine labels, gilt top foredges, slight fading to the spines and a small patch of lifting to the cloth of Volume 2, but otherwise clean, bright and sharp, now in custom acetate jackets, appears unread and an excellent clean tight unmarked and very handsome set, almost as new.

An exceptional deluxe binding by TOUT binders, with an autograph letter by the illustrator. Leech's letter is to Morgan Dormer mentioning oil sketches, hunting, with a small rebus sketch appearently meaning nobody (legs, no body). Extensively illustrated by Leech with fine engraved plates.
