First edition of the winner of the first Spur Award set against the backdrop of a sheriff protecting a prisoner from lynching with similar theme as High Noon. Overholser (1906-1996) won the first "Spur Award" for Best Western Novel with this title which served as the basis for the 1956 Universal Western directed by Charles Haas, and starred John Agar, Mamie Van Doren, and Richard Boone, and uncredited first film appearance of Clint Eastwood.
