Say's American Entomology was the first of several major natural history publications by American men of science, following the tradition of Alexander Wilson's American Ornithology. As with Wilson's mangnum opus, American Entomology includes beautiful colour illustrations. The artist Titian Peale, whose illustrations are noted for their beauty and accuracy, created more than half of this book's plates.
