Add to basketTwo important works published together: 1) The second edition of "Astrologiae methodus" by Johannes Garcaeus the Younger (1530-1574) in which the author discusses his astrological method and explicates several hundreds of nativities (horoscopes); Garcaeus was a German Lutheran theologian and astrologist. The work is illustrated with many diagrams, mostly nativities of various important persons, and supplemented with many tables, including 4 fold-out ones. One leaf is missing (pp. 215-216) and there are several important pagination errors in the book (nos. 169 and 170 are used twice; nos. 75, 78, 97, 100-101, 104, 397 and 400 are either skipped or fold-out tables are numbered as 4 pages). 2) "De septem Calendariis" by Erasmus Oswaldus Schreckenfuchsius (1511-1575), prefaced and edited by his son Laurentius; Erasmus Schreckenfuchsius was a German mathematician, astronomer, humanist and hebraist. The author deals with seven historical calendars (Roman, Alexandrine/Coptic, Greek, Egyptian, Persian, Arab and Hebrew). The work is illustrated with many tables and 15 double plates with schematic depictions of calendars. /// There are no dates on title pages; only the first work is dated in the colophon (September 1576). Antiqua typeface; both title pages and both last pages feature a woodcut device of Officina Henricpetriana; other pages are decorated with many woodcut initials with figural and floral motifs. Provenance: The title page contains an ownership note of Tobias Fischer von Croschwitz (1559-1616), dated 17 October 1592; Fischer was a historian, poet and city physician of Swidnica/Schweidnitz, Silesia. The last owner was Petr Vopenka (1935-2015), a well-known Czech mathematician and philosopher. /// Parchment binding with coloured edges and handwritten title on coloured backstrip (ribbons missing); hardback, [68]+476 [i.e. 468 or 476]+[2], [160] pp., 15 plates, 4° (21 x 32 cm), parchment worn and slightly darkened, with brown spots and a few bookworm traces, endpapers with bookworm traces, front free endpaper with old call number and pen scribble covering old ownership stamp, back free endpaper with note written with pen (1934), ca 20 leaves with a few tiny bookworm traces (text only rarely affected), title page with worn corner, old call numbers written with pen and coloured pencil, note written with pencil and minor underlining written with coloured pencil, several pages with minor marking and underlining with coloured pencil, ca 10 leaves have tiny tear (text not affected), one leaf missing, condition: very good Book Language/s: Latin.…
