Coloured lithographic map, 390 x 470 mm. framed and glazed. A comic map, apparently produced to celebrate the relief of Tobruk after Rommel called off the siege in early December, 1941. It would seem to be a mixture of contemporary in jokes and genuine geographical detail and recent news on the Tobruk front. Other than an illust…ration showing an artist's impression of Brighton in Sir Herbert Carden's The City Beautiful, A Vision of the New Brighton [1935] I have been unable to trace the artist, who although signing as an R.A. does not appear in the list of Royal Academicians; in this case it probably represents Royal Artillery. The map does not appear in any on-line database.
