These are the letters of a young woman, Emily McCorkle, who married an army assistant surgeon, Dr. Jenkins FitzGerald, and was thereafter ordered to Sitka, Alaska in 1874. These are the letters of her trip to Sitka via the East Coast, Isthmus of Panama by rail, and then by ship to Portland and on to Sitka where they lived for four years. These letters tell of the methods of travel, the hardships of life on the northern frontier, and woman's viewpoint of existence in a western fort. A clean presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
