An alarmist anti-miscegenation screed by the eccentric Bainbridge Island residents, Lambert and Patricia Schuyler, who describe their book as the "other side of the [civil rights] story, civil rights for white people, and particularly white women in an integrated society" (Ferguson, Adele. "Schuylers, Controversia…l Figures, Write Books on Controversial Subjects," Kitsap Sun, Thu, Mar 24, 1960, p. 18). In the book, the Schuylers discuss the plot to normalize sexual relations between the races as the eventual outcome of integration in other social and educational domains and describe this normalization in the following way: "Here we say to the black man, 'Enter! Take our fair blue-eyed daughters while they are still too innocent to realize that children could be involved in the contract. Rub out with your animal genes the possibility of racial superiority, beauty, greatness and even genius which our nation so badly needs. All must be sacrificed in the pursuit of our objective - equality, mediocrity and conformity' (p. 128)." The book rails against school integration, the genocidal concept of racial amalgamation, political enfranchisement for blacks juxtaposed with the greater and more important struggle for women's suffrage, the hypocrisy of all-black movements when whites aren't able to self-organize as whites, and a condemnation of whites who shirk their duty to defend their race. A postscript complains of the conspiracy among printers who refused to print the inflammatory material in this book. Lambert Schuyler (1895-1979) and Nora Patricia Schuyler (nee Briggs) (1910-1995) were long-time and controversial residents of Bainbridge Island, Washington, who co-authored numerous books. Lambert was a vocal opponent of allowing Japanese-Americans back on the island after WWII and penned the subtly-titled The Japs Must Not Come Back!: A Practical Approach to the Racial Problem (1944). They also founded a short-lived nudist colony on the island and were embroiled in lengthy arbitration (which they lost) for the right to homeschool their son. Posterity appears to remember them, not for their racism, but for their purchase of the palatial estate of San Clemente's founder, Ole Hanson, renaming it Casa Romantica in 1946. Patricia authored a children's book titled, Life at Casa Romantica. Comb-bound, green, laminated wrappers (9" x 5 ¾") with crudely drawn illustration of female white hands trying to shut the door on an encroaching black hand, 188, [4] p. A near fine copy, with a promotional flyer for the book laid in. Copies of this book rarely appear in the trade, with less than two dozen held institutionally.
