Sin duda, estos hechos son un referente para comprender cabalmente el denominado cambio climático, para diseñar medidas de prevención y protección del ambiente, y para evidenciar la vulnerabilidad humana al tiempo de enfrentar los periplos de la naturaleza. Este libro tiene el propósito de acercar al lector a las relaciones que existen entre la historia del clima y la historia humana. Para ello, se examinan hidrometeoros extremos, erupciones volcánicas, plagas agrícolas, movimientos telúricos, inundaciones, sequías y anomalías climáticas que coadyuvaron en la formación de desastres tanto en España como en Hispanoamérica entre los siglos XVII y XX. Dicha propuesta se presenta a la luz de tres ejes: la historia del clima, las relaciones entre historia humana y naturaleza, y los vínculos entre vulnerabilidad, políticas públicas y configuración de desastres.
