Konstantin Fedin gehört zu den profiliertesten Schriftstellern der Sowjetunion. Seine Werke sind weit über die Grenzen seiner Heimat hinaus bekannt. Der Autor wurde 1892 in Saratow g…eboren. Von 1911 bis 1914 besuchte er die Moskauer Handelshochschule. Zur Vervollkommnung seiner Studien reiste er 1914 nach Deutschland. Hier betätigt er sich als Sprachlehrer, Chorist und Schauspieler. Während des ersten Weltkrieges mußte er in ein Internierungslager. 1918 kehrt er zurück und stellt seine Kraft dem neuen Sowjetstaat zur Verfügung. Von 1919 bis 1924 arbeitet Fedin als Literaturkritiker und Publizist. Als ausgezeichneter Kenner der Verhältnisse in Europa schreibt er seine ersten Bücher unter dem Generalthema ?Der Westen und wir". Es entstehen die Werke ?Städte und Jahre"( 1924), ?Die Brüder" (1928), ?Raub der Europa" (1935), ?Sanatorium Arktur" (1940). Das Schaffen Fedins in den letzten zwanzig Jahren gehört dem Thema Rußland. Da ist seine Trilogie, die Romane ?Frühe Freuden" (1945), ?Ein ungewöhnlicher Sommer" (1948) und ?Die Flamme" (1961). In dieser Trilogie schildert Fedin das Schicksal einzelner Menschen und damit auch das Schicksal Rußlands. Die Handlung des ersten Romans gehört in das Jahr 1910, die Zeit des neuen revolutionären Aufschwungs nach dem Niederschlag der ersten russischen Revolution von 1905. Der Roman ?Ein ungewöhnlicher Sommer" erzählt von einer großen Stadt an der Wolga im Jahre 1919, vom Werden der Sowjetmacht, vom Bürgerkrieg. Der Schlußroman der Trilogie hat den Ausbruch des Großen Vaterländischen Krieges zum Vorwurf.
