Ellen Knudsen [Leigh Ellen Wall] (illustrator). First and Limited Edition. No. 3 of 50 copies. The author catalogues her love hate relationship of her rural birthplace in North Carolina and its natural world -- flowers, insects, storms. The love quotient, or appreciation, had grown with separation from the environment after fleeing to urban living, and that fondness is reflected in the gauzy dreamlike artwork she lavishes on each of the former peeves. Oblong, 14.5 by 21.5 cm. Unpaginated, 25 pages with some content, written and/or visual. Thin brown paper leaf, front and back, then bound in a Japanese Fukurotoji style, with sheets folded over, inner pockets without content. 26 panels in this core part. Line drawings by text credited to a 1950 edition of Webster's dictionary. The color magnesium plates are based on the author's color pencil drawings. Each copy of the book required 75 passes through the press, and other details of the book's creation are shared on the limitation and signature page at the end. Hardcover. Paper pastedown. Cloth slipcase.
