Top edge gilt, ribbon marker, map endpapers showing "The Voyages of Aeneas," and colour plates reproducing classical frescoes from Pompeii and Herculaneum. li, 448 pp. The Folio Society production includes the Fagles translation, Bernard Knox's introduction and notes, translator's postscript, genealogy, suggestions for further reading, variants from the Oxford Classical Text, notes on translation, and pronouncing glossary. Housed in the original brown publisher's solander box lettered in gilt. A desirable Folio Society limited edition of one of the central works of classical literature, in an attractive full-leather binding. CONDITION: Fine book in near-fine solander box. The book is clean, bright, and tight, with strong gilt and fresh-looking boards. Interior is clean and unmarked. Map endpapers and plates are well preserved. The top edge gilt is bright. The original solander/clamshell box is structurally sound, with very light wear near the spine foot and a small bump in lower right corner of the front cover, otherwise fine. Please see the pictures.
