Together these offer both critical interpretation and direct insight into Klee's artistic process and thought. Both volumes come from the library of Nathaniel Tarn, poet, anthropologist, and student of Claude Lévi Strauss, and feature his ex libris bookplate. Tarn provenance adds a layer of intellectual and collector interest, particularly for buyers drawn to cross disciplinary modernist circles. The Haftmann volume, published by Faber and Faber, remains one of the more respected English language studies of Klee's work, illustrated and accessible. The German Tagebücher volume, published by DuMont Schauberg, presents Klee's writings in the original language and is less commonly encountered in the U.S. market. Condition is very good overall.
