      Early undated reprint in cheaper binding, circa 1906, 8vo, 210 x 145 mm, 8¼ x 5¾ inches, 1/4 navy cloth, lettered and decorated gilt on spine, marbled boards, pages: 82, (2). Frontispiece and 7 beautiful photogravure plates printed sepia, plus 3 half-tone illustrations, the main title page printed red and black. Head and tail of spine just very slightly rubbed, small neat old ink inscription on front endpaper, half-title lightly browned, margins of plates very slightly foxed. Excellent near Fine copy. Original blue cloth with celtic-style decoration in gilt. Light rubbing to extremities; spine is sunned and has a small stain. Very light foxing to deckled edges, bookplate of Andrew Leicester Irvine on front pastedown, else clean and sound.

      FIRST EDITION 1903, EDITION DE LUXE LIMITED TO 225 LARGE PAPER COPIES FOR ENGLAND AND AMERICA, THIS BEING No. 34 OF THE ENGLISH COPIES, 4to, 260 x 180 mm, 10¼ x 7 inches, bevelled boards, vellum binding illustrated pale blue and gilt on upper cover and spine, lettered pale blue on upper cover, top edges gilt, pages: xvii, 379. Mounted frontispiece and extra illustrated title page printed red and black on India paper with tissue guard, 22 very beautiful mounted plates, all with tissue guards, 17 printed red and black, 5 black only, exquisite decorative head- and tailpieces also. Spine slightly darkened and colour on spineslightly faded, slightly rubbed at head and tail, a few faint marks to covers, neat modern bookplate on front pastedown and an early one on front endpaper, endpapers lightly browned, frontispiece and extra title page foxed due to the foxed tissue guard, last plate foxed very slightly in margin, a few faint fox spots on letterpress title page. Contents otherwise very nice. A very good plus copy of the rare de luxe edition. See White page 44 for an excellent description of the artistry employed in these wonderful illustrations. One of a Limited edition of 550 copies, of which 500 were printed on velin paper, and 50 copies printed on japon paper. This copy is number 320 of the 500 on velin paper. Bound in Light brown original snakeskin leather, with mounted embossed gold cover vignettes and gilt lettering on spine, at the workshop of the publisher René Kieffer. Small publisher's label on inside of front board. Fine copy. Note: The delicate drawings for this book were prepared during Jessie M. King's time in Paris. They are reproduced using the stencilling technique known as pochoir, which gives the colours a great clarity. The illustrations for this book are considered to be some of King's finest. - Taylor, Art Nouveau Book in Britain, p. 136. L'habitation Forcee was printed by Rene Kieffer who was well known in Paris in the early 20th century for his innovative book designs and techniques and as one of the most important book binders in the Art Deco style. Internally clean, with moderate wear to covers, including a little rubbing and chipping to spine, and a small water stain to the upper joint. Very good. King offers an illustration for each couplet of the famous Victorian Carol.
