Het werk presenteert dialogen, observaties en beschrijvingen waarin vissen, rivieren, seizoenen en het landelijke leven centraal staan. Tegelijkertijd heeft het een literair en cultuurhistorisch karakter, doordat het de levenshouding en de contemplatieve relatie tussen mens en natuur benadrukt.
