Button was editor of the Albany Times Union in 1966, and ran for the open Congressional seat in 1967, pitting himself against the Albany O'Connell political machine. Dubbed a "battle of Tom Thumb against Goliath," Button won the race. This is his memoir of that race, written a few years before his death.
