Originally published in hard covers by Morrow in the US in 1935 under the title The Clew of the Forgotten Murder as by Carleton Kendrake and then later in the same year under this title by Cassell in the UK. The front cover has light reading creasing down the left side next to the spine. The back cover has some browning and slight surface creasing there is some edge rubbing to the spine. Browning to the page edges with one tiny dark spot to the top edges. Browning to the insides of the covers and to the pages which are otherwise unmarked. First printing. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed.

A 1st edition (Morrow on the title page and spine) of a Sidney Griff mystery from the mid 1930s, with Gardner writing under the pen name of Carleton Kendrake. Black boards with red lettering and decoration, and black lettering on a red background. Light to moderate wear at the edges. The lettering and decoration are clean. The front and rear hinges are broken with the webbing showing - the front being more fragile. The RFEP has been removed. Blue ink stamps (Samuel Skolsky Commercial Stationary & Book Store Inc) on the front paste down and FFEP. The internals are clean. A fair copy of a hard to find early Gardner title.
