Cream cloth cover with forest green stamp on face and spine has very mildly bumped tips of the boards, very minor edgewear on the lower boards, mild crushing to the top and bottom of the spine and a soiled ront and back cover with a worn spine. The Tree-Dwellers(The Age of Fear) by Katharine Elizabeth Dopp was published by Rand McNally & Company in 1904. Not an ex-library copy, this 160-page, 107-year-old offering in fine condition is the first volume in the author's Industrial and Social History Series geared for students in either the primary or intermediate grades. The book features some 60 very distinctive drawings in black and white, 14 of which are full-page renderings, by one Howard V. Brown. Also included are some 26 pages of "Suggestions To Teachers", which begins, "The test of a book is the service it can render. .It is the child of six and a half or seven years for whom this book is intended." Said suggestions explore such aspects of teaching as method, typical modes of activity(i.e., sand or clay modeling, gesture and pantomime, drawing and painting, field lessons), supplementary facts, animal life, and special suggestions(such as a brief list of other books to read that might assist in teaching from this particular text). You will find, Reader, that this is a most fascinating book on several levels.
