Blue cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on the front and spine, nicking to the cloth along edges, corner tips, and at the head and foot of the spine. Spine faded with the gold l…ettering rubbed and dimmed; fading extends slightly onto the top edge of the front board. Binding is tight. Light soiling along the edges of the text block. Pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked. From the library of psychiatrist Jurgen Ruesch (1909-1995), with his stamp "Jurgen Ruesch / Dr. med." on the front free endpaper. Ruesch trained in medicine at the University of Zurich and went on to a distinguished career at the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute of the University of California, San Francisco; he is best known to historians of psychiatry and communication theory for his collaboration with Gregory Bateson on "Communication: The Social Matrix of Psychiatry" (1951), a foundational text of the Palo Alto group on communication and family systems.
