THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. 8th revised edition, 1929, of a guidebook for travellers to Egypt and the Sudan region, the first edition to mention the discovery and excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb. Contains multiple maps and plans, many of the former in colour, along with ethnographic, geographical and historical information of interest to the traveller (and probably, given the time, using words and attitudes that may be off-colour to modern eyes). Condition: Covers shelfworn, corners bumped and splitting, very rubbed, spine faded and head of spine cracking and part missing. Patterned foreedges faded. Noticeable foxing throughout, but all pages remain readable; some of the foldout maps a little creased, some foxed. Internal hinges cracking badly at front, but intact through most of the rest; attached book ribbon intact but faded and frayed.

Condition: Very Good. Third edition. 16mo (6"x4"). 331pp. Red flex covers, blindstamped with giltstamped titles. Marbled textblock edges. 13 full color maps, 5 of which are fold-outs and "12 plans". Light shelfwear: rubbed edges, warp, soiling. Pages toned. Heavily foxed endpapers. Slight warp throughout. Lower half of first fold-out loose at gutter.
