The binding is slightly rubbed, otherwi…se a very good and clean copy without markings. -- The Via Dolorosa (Latin: The Sorrowful Way, Way of Sorrows) is a processional route in Jerusalem named after the Passion of Jesus of Nazareth. The term Via Dolorosa was coined in 1573 by Boniface of Ragusa OFM in his book Liber de perenni cultu Terrae Sanctae; however, Boniface only knew of four stations. Franciscans developed the individual stations of the Way, which was always adapted to the accessibility of the pilgrimage groups they led, in various ways over the centuries. The origins of this route go back to the time of the Crusaders. It was not the case that today's Via Dolorosa was brought to their home countries by European pilgrims to the Holy Land and recreated there as the Way of the Cross, but the other way round: the Way of the Cross was a special form of devotion developed in Europe, which pilgrims expected to see when they visited Jerusalem: The Way of the Cross devotion was developed in Europe and is realized in the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. -- Mount Scopus (Latin scopus) is a mountain in the Judean Hills in Jerusalem. With its height of 826 m, the (modern) Mount Scopus is known as a vantage point with a good view of Jerusalem. In the past, it was of strategic importance for the defense of the city. Since 1925, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Wolffsohn Building of the Jewish National and University Library, inaugurated in 1929, and the large hospital of the charitable organization Hadassah, built by Erich Mendelsohn and opened in 1939, have been located on Mount Scopus.
