Present rare book of children's poetry written by famous Estonian poet and favorite children's writer Julius Oengo (1901 1941) and his sister Ada Oengo-Johanson could be considered as a significant cultural phenomenon. Even nowadays Oengo's most of these verses know almost every Estonian child. Written in simple and comprehensible language, using unforgettable expressions, his poems talk about mother, Christmas, the changing seasons, sport and games, and all with verve and humour. During the 1920s literature for children underwent considerable development in both quantity and quality, more attention was paid to the books design. Current book remarkable linocut cover design and four original full-page linocut illustrations inside created by famous Estonian graphic artist, painter and sculptor Roman Haavamägi (Espensberg) (1891-1964). In 1920-1926 young artist was actively engaged in book graphics. His artworks of that period (as the whole Estonian art) followed modernist international trends - impressionism, expressionism and futurism. Modernist trends evidently seen also in current work. In 1916 he became member of the Estonian Art Society, in 1922 the Estonian Central Association of Visual Artists, in 1926 Estonian Artists Group and in 1946 member of the Artists' Union. Haavamägi name is among the most important representatives of the Tallinn school in the graphic art.
