Destacat excursionista del primer terç del segle XX, amb una notable carrera de primeres ascensions i exploracions arreu del Pirineu, especialment a la zona aragonesa, on explorà metòdicament totes les seves valls i cims. Soler va donar carta de naturalesa a la pràctica esportiva o caminadora, anomenada llavors contemplaiva, obrint nous camins a lexcursionisme català del moment i acostant-lo a lactiu pirineisme francès de la seva època. Cal destacar la seva faceta de fotògraf, que pot qualificar-se dexcepcional, amb una collecció dimatges daltíssim valor documental i artístic. Igualment la seva figura va ser decisiva en la construcció del refugi de la Renclusa, als peus de lAneto.
