Hardcover. [8], 174 p. 24 cm. Includes Illustrations. This was published for Degania's Jubilee year. Mr. Baratz settled in Palestine at the age of 16. He was a member of the group that founded Juma, which became Deganya From Wikipedia: "Degania Alef is a kibbutz in northern Israel. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Emek HaYarden Regional Council. Degania was Israel's first kibbutz. It was established in 1909 in Ottoman Palestine. Degania Alef was the first kibbutz established by Jewish Zionist pioneers in Palestine, then under Ottoman rule. It was founded by a group of ten men and two women. On May 20, 1948 during the Battles of the Kinarot Valley, Degania Alef repelled a Syrian attack. Moshe Dayan was the second child born there. Dayan was named after Moshe Barsky, the first kibbutz member killed in an Arab attack. During the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, the settlement was destroyed by the Syrian army. Reconstruction started almost immediately. The name is derived from "dagan, " meaning "grain." Good in fair dust jacket. Signed by author. DJ has some wear, soiling edge tears and chips.
