In 1882, Jose Ramirez I opened a workshop specializing in handcrafted Spanish guitars. Today, the company is considered among the most important Spanish guitar makers in the world and is also stated to be the oldest company in the direct line (i.e. passed from father to son). Jose Ramirez III is distinguished within the dynasty as an "indefatigable researcher," and here he presents both a history of his family and his study of "the mysteries of acoustics and vibratory waves in bowed, plectrum and plucking instruments" and the resulting experiments and inventions.
