Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book Club Edition. First printing of the Jazz Book Club edition - No. 59 in the series of volumes on jazz. The book was originally published by MacGibbon & Kee. ***Near fine in red cloth-covered boards with black titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unma…rked, having been protected by the dustwrapper. Page block edges clean with no foxing. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Some light foxing and browning to the endpapers, otherwise pages are clean. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which is complete and undamaged. Despite being printed on very thin paper, there are no areas of loss and no serious creasing - just some light rubbing and creasing to the edges. There is also some spotting and browning to the spine. Dustwrapper otherwise bright. ***244 pages including an 8-page detailed Index at the back of the book. 203mm x 134mm. ***'Amiri Baraka (born Everett Leroy Jones; October 7, 1934 - January 9, 2014), previously known as LeRoi Jones and Imamu Amear Baraka, was an American writer of poetry, drama, fiction, essays, and music criticism. He was the author of numerous books of poetry and taught at several universities, including the University at Buffalo and Stony Brook University. He received the PEN/Beyond Margins Award in 2008 for "Tales of the Out and the Gone". Baraka's plays, poetry, and essays have been described by scholars as constituting defining texts for African-American culture. Baraka's career spanned nearly 52 years, and his themes range from Black liberation to White racism. His notable poems include "The Music: Reflection on Jazz and Blues", "The Book of Monk", and "New Music, New Poetry", works that draw on topics from the worlds of society, music, and literature.' (Wiki) ***A first printing of the Jazz Book Club edition in near fine condition, in a very good dustwrapper. An uncommon title in the series. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
