Published by International Prehistoric Relic Collectors' Association, Lancaster, California, 1941
A near complete run lacking only the fourth and final issue of this magazine of the International Prehistoric Relic Collectors' Association (IPRCA), which was founded by Antelope Valley Indian Museum curator Rexford Johnson "to insure genuineness of Indian relics bought from member collectors and dealers," especially in California, Arizona and New Mexico. The magazine was announced in the December, 1940 issue of Desert Magazine as being "devoted especially to people who lived on the great American desert before coming of the white man" (p. 35, The Desert Magazine, Vol. 4, No. 2, December 1940). No other information on the IPRCA could be found. Interestingly, many of the magazine's writers were women including Elinor Franklin Cruce, Flora Beal Shelton (author of a number of books on Tibet), Helene Hohensee (featured on the cover of issue 1), Erma Gier, Gladys Collier, and others. The magazine featured articles on indigenous groups - mostly Native Americans - archeology, artifacts and collectibles, but also poetry, lists of reputable dealers, classifieds and wanted lists, etc. Stapled, glossy wrappers, 11" x 8 ½", each issue consists of 24 pp., many photographs and illustrations. Light wear to edges, but all near fine. Less than a dozen institutional holdings of any issue in WorldCat and no issues currently available in the trade (Sept., 2025).
