Reassessment of Edmund Spencer's 1579 poem 'The Shepheardes Calender' which places the poem in its literary, social, political and cultural context. It was Spenser's first major poetic work, an emulation of Virgil's first work, the Eclogues. The title, like the entire work, is written using deliberately archaic spellings, in order to suggest a connection to medieval literature. 600 grams.
