Contemporary brown cloth stained/mottled; small surface tears to front board's surface cloth; frayed tearing with slender loss along rear board's fore-edge margin; small cloth losses at frayed spine ends with tear at front joint heel; spine's gilt stamped lettering dulled but still easily legible. Obtrusive staining to endpapers; faded antiquarian ink inscription on front free endpaper; pencil writing on both front and rear endpapers; additional pencil writing on half-title leaf; toning/foxing strongest on several initial and rear leaves; interior text pages have varied foxing/toning and light moisture stains. Binding is firm. Book now presented in a clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which aids the book's shelf presence. Landmark work by British-born American philosopher and semanticist Alexander Bryan Johnson.
