In a "Preliminary Discourse" Johnes discusses other French travels, in manuscript, from the 5th to the 15th centuries'. (Navari, Blackmer Catalogue. Translator Thomas Johnes states in Volume 1 that the original French version is in four volumes and each of the four volumes of the French make three octavo volumes of the English translation. Bound in original full leather with decorative gilt stamped spines and title panels; gilt striped board edges. This set formerly belonged to the 11th Baron Blayney, Lieutenant General Andrew Thomas Blayney (1770-1834) of Blayney Castle, Ireland, and Lord Blayney's armorial bookplate is attached to the inside cover of all volumes except Volume 5. Some extensive rubbing wear to the front and back leather boards on all volumes, as well as chipping to the delicate decorative spines. Volume 12 has a split at the top of the front joint but it does not go through to the inner hinge. Plain endpapers.
