Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This copy is NEAR FINE; the text is clear, bright, and unmarked; binding is tight, but pages are definitely aging and some foxing on edges. The covers are also near fine: intact in all ways, including color and design, but slight wear on edges and corners, sunning and dealer's mark on spine. We have a five star rating because of our fulfilment success and because our descriptions are accurate. We guarantee: NO NASTY SURPRISES.

Solid trade paperback.; INSCRIBED "With all best wishes" by author. Memorial bookplate of Percival Hunt is on front paste-down. Hunt was Head of the Department of English at the time that Dodds was an Assistant Professor writing this book. "It seems important . to reappraise Southerne's work and to place it both in reference to the drama of the period and to the later spawn of sentimental tragedy. Such a study, made without the attempt sometimes exerted to create a hero of a man of straw, reveals Southerne as a far more important tragic dramatist than the neglect accorded him by special studnets of drama would indicate." - Preface. Contents: Preface; Chronology; I. Biographical Sketch; II. The Loyal Brothr, or The Persian Prince; III. The Disappointment, or The Mother in Fashion; IV. Sir Anthony Love, or The Rambling Lady; V. The Wives' Excuse, or Cuckolds Make Themselves; VI. The Maid's Last Prayer, or Any Rather Than Fail; VII. The Fatal Marriage, or The Innocent Adultery; VIII. Oroonoka; IX. The Fate of Capua; X.
