The author explains how the deep economic and political interconnections of the Mediterranean region served as a crucial factor in Rome's rise to imperial power. This book explor…es the complex network of connections between the Republic's wealthy elite and the Roman government, shedding light on the ways in which Rome's political decisions were shaped by economic interests. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a riveting account of the life and times of Sir Francis Wronghead, a wealthy but hapless country gentleman who ventures into the treacherous waters of London society. The author deftly weaves a tale of Sir Francis's misadventures and romantic entanglements, providing a gli…mpse into the social and political landscape of 18th-century England. The book explores themes of social mobility, the clash between urban and rural life, and the nature of true love. Through Sir Francis's mishaps, the author satirizes the pretensions of the upper classes and the folly of those who seek to rise above their station. Beyond its entertainment value, this book offers insights into the complexities of human nature and the enduring power of love. It reminds us that true happiness often lies not in material possessions or social status, but in the genuine connections we forge with others. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Contact seller1-star sellerSoft cover. Condition: Good. Softcover early 18th c./ late Restoration play begun by actor/manager Cibber, reworked by Vanbrugh (architect of Blenheim Palace) into his second and most successful play. Here is a 24mo copy from 1823 with notes, frp illustration and one for the stage and positions of the actors for this period, som…e lines inked out and very fine ink comments in margins of 19thc performance give this a decidedly mid 19th c flavor. The premise of the plot, that a wife trapped in an abusive marriage with a brutish husband might consider either leaving it or taking a lover, outraged some sections of society but has a very contemporary appeal today. Good only as strings loosening, some chipping, 82pps, ancient protective wrap provided. Rare.
