Hardcover. Condition: Good. 3rd Edition. xlv, [50]-240pp, steel engraved frontispiece, green cloth with gilt titles, lower extremities worn thru, front inner hinge cracked, a good copy overall. The author was born in Connecticut in 1802. He attended Brown University, where one of his instructors was Horace Mann, and one of his classmates was Samuel G. Howe. In 1830 he settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where he founded the Louisville Journal, one of the outstanding literary newspapers in the country.
