Paperback. Condition: new. Levering, Albert (illustrator). Paperback. Alice in Blunderland: An Iridescent Dream is a novel by John Kendrick Bangs. It was first published in 1907 by Doubleday, Page & Co. of New York, with illustrations by Albert Levering. It is a political parody of the two Alice books by Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. It is critical of economic issues such as taxation, corporate greed, and corruption. Instead of entering Wonderland, Alice finds herself in "Blunderland", which is also described as "Municipal Ownership Country". The book features line drawings by Albert Levering 1869-1929), after the original Alice illustrations by John Tenniel. In 1902, Bangs had written a book inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, called Rollo in Emblemland. Part of Alice in Blunderland was previously published as "Alice in Municipaland" in Concerning Municipal Ownership, vol. 1 no. 10 (December 1906), pp. 182-87 (perhaps the first chapter of the book Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

Add to basketTaschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Levering, Albert (illustrator). nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - John Kendrick Bangs (1862-1922) was born in Yonkers, New York, and is known for his work as an author, editor, and satirist. He worked for 'Life', a number of 'Harper's' periodicals, and 'Puck', perhaps the foremost American humour magazine of its day. In 'Alice in Blunderland: An Iridescent Dream'-first published in 1907-Bangs makes light of a range of economic issues familiar to his readers-these are quite topical and all-too familiar to today's reader as well. High taxes, corporate greed, bribery, institutional corruption, and governmental incompetence are amongst the themes of the book. Bangs' 'Alice in Blunderland' relies more on absurdity than it does on nonsense, and some of the humour is indeed rather American. But Bangs' success is to make his reader smile wryly rather than laugh out loud-for his satire is very much on target.
