Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a historical and contextual study of the US Forest Service's rangeland datasets gathered from 1977-1980 and used in the 1980 RPA Assessment. The author provides an overview of the methodologies employed by a group of interdisciplinary experts tasked with evaluating grazing and browsing production. The assessment is examined and evaluated in light of three data sources: intrinsic relationships among variables as envisioned by the expert team, field data gathered from research plots, and the Soil Conservation Service's range site descriptions. The book reveals weaknesses in the methodology and the challenges of translating qualitative assessments into quantitative data. Despite these weaknesses, the datasets have proven invaluable for further analysis in the decades since their creation and remain an important resource for those interested in range assessment and management. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
