Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. New Edition. Handsome New edition hardcover is beautifully bound in a 3/4 brown calf leather fine binding over brown cloth. Backstrip of book is firmly attached & displays an ornate five raised band back strip with matching gilt ornamentation in 5 of six partitions. Sixth is the brown…title box with block lettered title in gilt that is quite legible despite 4 tiny areas of color loss to the dark brown coloring background. Light rubbing, color loss to calf leather tips and spine ends, but remains a very good looking book that feels great in hand. Internals appear little used. Light foxing on endpapers and few pages in from each end. 99% of the 608 pp text remains as nice as the year it was printed, the light cream colored paper is quality stock, not that nearly see-through paper of some early books. Printed in Glasgow by Dunn and Wright printed on copyright page. MacClure & Macdonald Glasgow printed at the foot of the busy black and white frontis plate without an artist credited. Not finding the book binder credited. Marbled end papers and all edges of page block. Is not a fore-edge painting book. Inner hinges are fine, duplicate signed names on fep and on reverse of frontis. The type is quite small. Peppered with black and white line drawings and sketches within, the ones marked with an X by Dr. Andrew Crawford. Beginning of the book has a 21 pp Biographical Sketch of the editor, John Donald Carrick. A vintage book of funny and/or moral tales, short paragraph ditties, anecdote & humor.
