Otherwise, this book is in good condition with light wear, slight fraying of the spine ends, and the original owner's vintage bookplate, otherwise unmarked. 411 pages. The mostly green exterior is decorated with gilt lettering, and the page edges are gilt. [3.3 lbs]. Book.

Several contributions to this thick octavo including a biography of Edgar Alan Poe by Rufus Griswold and article by Mark Twain titled "Encounter with An Interviewer". "Welch, Biegelow Co. Extensively decorated full leather boards with gilt and brown imprint. Leather is scuffed with rubbed edges and bumped corners. Spine shaken. Marbled endpapers with some cracking at hinges, all edges gilt with a few scuffs and light soil. Endpapers and a few text pages have light soil, small tears, and light shadows from tissue over plates. This book, a product of the members of the literary Lotos Club, which took its name from Alfred Tennyson's poem "The Lotos Eaters," contains the first appearance of member Mark Twain's short story " An Encounter with an Interviewer."
