Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 91 pages with diagrams, illustrations and index. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 1/4") bound in original publishers pictorial wrappers. First edition. The Queen's Indian Defences has been known for some time, but was largely ignored until the last few years even though Petrosian had employed it sporadically with good results. Its full potential was realized only after Gary Kasparov molded it into a respectable system which he has used to win game after game. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, edge wear, lightly soiled else very good.

Although the Center Counter is almost five hundred years old, the first known recorded instance of the defense being the game Castellvi-Vinoles in 1485, it remains a theoretical enigma. Most modern theorists treat it with disdain, considering surprise it's chief virtue. Consequently it's appearance in grandmaster chess has always been sporadic. Condition: Corner's bumped, lightly soiled else a very good copy. Signed by Author(s).
