The author has chosen to use the term 'developments' since, in the author's opinion, the changes implemented throughout the ages have often been for the worse. Beginning with the doctrine of the infallibility of the Pope, the author questions the historical validity of this belief, ultimately asserting that the inability to err is a divine attribute not held by men. The author also claims that rather than giving clarity, tradition has only served to increase the need for a human authority to interpret scripture, ultimately leading to the primacy of the Pope.
