La obra debió cosechar cierto interés pues se publicó una segunda edición dos años más tarde, en 1647, y de nuevo en 1654. Jean Jacques Chifflet nació en Besançon y fue médico del rey de España Felipe IV. Fue el ilustre literato y diplomático Diego Saavedra Fajardo, en aquellos años Embajador Plenipotenciario español para asistir al congreso de paz de Münster, quien presentó y recomendó los textos del doctor Chifflet al monarca español para que costease su publicación. También insistió para la publicación del libro de Chifflet Francisco Manuel de Melo en algunas de cuyas cartas dirigidas a Felipe IV puede leerse: "Con carta de 30 de mayo remite el marqués de Tordelaguna a V. M. antes de imprimirse (como se ordenó) las obras del doctor Chifl et, procurando probar, que la precedencia y derechos de Carlomagno tocan más a V. M. que a la corona de Francia. Dice lo que se ha trabajado en esta materia y que se pretende vean el libro personas doctas por lo que importa para la disposición de la paz". A raiz de la presente obra surgen toda una serie de libros, algunos escritos por el propio Chifflet, a favor y en contra de los derechos hereditarios de los monarcas españoles en los Países Bajos.
