Romanesque art was the first period of art from the Middle Ages that simultaneously asserted itself throughout Europe. This was especially expressed in Christian architecture. On the basis of beautiful photos, this book succeeds in depicting the special atmosphere that emanates from medieval churches and monasteries. According to this book, this was due to the important role that monasteries played in the early Middle Ages. According to the authors, Romanesque art is therefore a Christian, religious art of mainly churches and monasteries. The book starts with a chapter in which the most commonly used style concepts, terms and floor plans are explained clearly and by means of illustrations. The last chapter is entirely devoted to Romanesque painting." Oversize. 8.75" wide by 10.25" tall [22.5 cm x 26 cm].
