Robert Knox Sneden (1832-1918) was a member of the 40th New York during the Civil War, was captured and imprisoned in Andersonville in the south. White a prisoner he made pencil sketches and maps of his experiences and after the war converted them to 900 color illustrations for his memoirs.They only came to light in 1973, and this compilation is the largest number ever published. The illustrations are accompanied by portions of his memoirs. Original dark blue cloth spine with gilt spine lettering over dark blue paper covered boards. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, or markings.; Color Illustrations, maps; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 263 pages.
