Paperback. Condition: Good. Our family did not go to church, nor did I know anything about Christianity while growing up in San Diego, California. I became active in a variety of sports such as basketball, surfing, bowling, billiards, ping pong and Tiddlywinks. I worked a variety of jobs while attending San Diego State University. I graduated in 1976 and also acquired a teaching credential. In the midst of all this Jesus Christ entered the drama of my life. It wasn't long before the drama became a rescue story. Jesus saved me from myself. I was my own worst enemy and didn't even know it. Thank you, Jesus. The last place I thought I would ever step foot in was a church. However, now that Jesus was guiding my steps, his church was where I had to be. I got involved teaching Sunday school with the sixth graders and I also helped with the church's youth group. The Lord straightened out my life, put me on his blessed path and led me to the love of my life. Her name is Brenda. She became my wife that same year. An amazing thing happened: the church asked me to be their youth pastor. Those years of leading young people in the Lord was a blessing. The blessing kept growing leading us to plant a church where we still are today. We raised two children in that setting who are now adults living blessed lives in the Lord. I was then blessed to earn a Masters of Divinity Degree from Bethel Seminary in San Diego graduating in the year 2,000. The Lord led me to start Christian Life Tools as a way to extend his salvation and blessing to others. May God's salvation and blessing be on all who pick up this book.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. Imagine meeting a French chef who is much more than what he seems. In this true story, James Twyman enters the mystical world of Roger Dufau, the owner of a bed-and-breakfast outside Toronto, who dishes out lessons on love and God just as easily as he does the most delicious cuisine. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This first edition ever published of Trimalchio, an early and complete version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby now appears in paperback. Fitzgerald wrote the novel as Trimalchio and submitted it to Maxwell Perkins, his editor at Scribner's, who had the novel set in type and the galleys sent to Fitzgerald in France. Fitzgerald then virtually rewrote the novel in galleys, producing the book we know as The Great Gatsby. This ur-version, Trimalchio, has never been published and is markedly different from The Great Gatsby: two chapters were completely rewritten for the published novel, and the rest of the book was heavily revised. Characterization is different, the narrative voice of Nick Carraway is altered and, most importantly, the revelation of Jay Gatsby's past is handled in a wholly different way. …

Paperback. Condition: Fair. Dirty Little Secrets of World War II exposes the dark, irreverent, misunderstood, and often tragicomic aspects of military operations during World War II, many of them virtually unknown even to military buffs. Like its successful predecessor, Dirty Little Secrets, Dunnigan and Nofi's new book vividly brings to life all theaters and participants of the war. Revelations include: - The real death count for the war, and why it has never been previously released. - The "new age" general who refused to smoke or drink, who lived on a vitamin-enriched diet, who opposed animal experimentation, and who regularly consulted his astrologer. - How equipment developed for the war led to such modern high-tech innovations as "smart bombs," electronic warfare, and nuclear missles. - The lackadaisical relationship between Germany and Japan throughout the war. - Tricky bits of information about the lingering effects of the war -- like the thousands of live shells and mines that are still buried in Europe and off the East Coast of America. …

Hardback. Condition: Good. When Warren Buffett was asked why the Gillette board of directors chose Jim Kilts to be CEO, he said, Jim made as much sense in terms of talking about business as anybody I've ever talked to. If you listen to Jim analyze a business situation you get absolutely no baloney. And, frankly, finding someone like that is a rarity. There is only one CEO in recent times who has faced--and succeeded at--the extraordinary challenges of leading three major companies--Gillette, Nabisco, and Kraft--into prosperous futures by doing what matters on the fundamentals. That CEO is Jim Kilts. In this vivid first-person account he reveals his system for success that is both cutting-edge and back-to-basics. Doing What Matters--the action plan for identifying and tackling what's important and ignoring the rest--is the key to winning in a warp-speed world where the need for revolutionary speed and decisiveness increases by the day. Kilts illustrates his ideas with colorful stories, such as that little red razor. A new product idea he proposed early on at Gillette, it was initially shelved because everyone knew you couldn't sell a red razor, but went on to become one of Gillette's biggest marketing successes ever. Jim Kilts's focus on both business fundamentals and personal attributes provides the complete package, showing how to get results that make a difference through: - Intellectual integrity: The ability to face the unvarnished truth about yourself and your business and using what you see as the basis for action. - Generating emotional engagement and enthusiasm: Using the force of your personality and ideas to infuse people and an entire organization with a sense of purpose and mission. - Action: Gillette, with just five product lines, had over 20,000 SKUs. After studying the issue for over two years, there were still 20,000. How Kilts got Gillette off the dime to pare down the number to 7,000 almost overnight is an astonishing example of getting the rubber to meet the road--with enormous benefits to the business. - Understanding the right things through an overarching concept to frame and filter issues: For Jim Kilts it was Total Brand Value, the framework he used in the consumer products industry for achieving better, faster, and more complete results than the competition. Whether you're CEO of a multibillion-dollar global company, the brand manager for a product, an entrepreneur starting a small business, or just beginning a career, Doing What Matters provides the practical ideas that get results--ranging from a day one action plan for starting a new job to a chorus of cheers and support to a program of total innovation that involves everyone in changes from small to big bang. Paperback. Condition: Good. You can't control the future, but you can lead faithfully through it. Christian leadership rarely comes with a clear roadmap. Leaders must make decisions without having all the answers, guide others through uncertainty, and carry responsibility for outcomes they cannot fully control. In Leading by Faith, James F. Sanft draws on decades of leadership experience, including his service as president and CEO of a nonprofit organization supporting church workers and their families, to offer practical wisdom for Christian leaders navigating real-world challenges. During his tenure, he led through financial upheaval, sweeping healthcare changes, and the COVID-19 pandemic, learning firsthand that effective leadership requires both careful judgment and trust in God's guidance. Rather than offering a formula for success, Sanft presents leadership as faithful stewardship. Through personal reflections, professional experiences, and lessons drawn from Scripture, family life, and organizational leadership, he explores what it means to lead with humility, courage, and conviction. Readers will discover how to: Make sound decisions when information is incomplete Accept responsibility without carrying every burden alone Build trust, strengthen partnerships, and develop effective teams Respond to crises with clarity, communication, and perseverance Balance growth, risk, and stewardship while remaining true to core values Lead with integrity, compassion, accountability, and faith Written for pastors, nonprofit leaders, ministry professionals, and emerging leaders, Leading by Faith offers practical insight and thoughtful encouragement for anyone entrusted with serving others. Sanft challenges common assumptions about leadership and demonstrates how faithful leaders learn from the past, seek wise counsel, and act with confidence in changing circumstances. Wherever the next turn in your leadership journey leads, this book will help you faithfully steward the people, resources, and opportunities God has placed in your care.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Stories about ethical issues at universities make headlines every day. From sexual violence to racial conflict, from the treatment of adjuncts to cheating, students, professors, and administrators face countless ethical trials. And yet, very few resources exist to assist universities in developing an ethical culture. University Ethics addresses this challenge. Each chapter studies a facet of university life--including athletics, gender, faculty accountability, and more--highlights the ethical hotspots, explains why they occur, and proposes best practices. Professional ethics are a key component of training for numerous other fields, such as business management, medicine, law, and journalism, but there is no prescribed course of study for the academy. Professors and administrators are not trained in standards for evaluating papers, colleagues, boundaries, or contracts. University Ethics not only examines the ethical problems that colleges face one by one but proposes creating an integrated culture of ethics university-wide that fosters the institution's mission and community. In an environment plagued by university scandals, University Ethics is essential reading for anyone connected to higher education today.…
