Williams was a commander of the Royal Artillery who served in New Zealand from 1864 to 1866. You can view many of these sketches online via Hakena. There is also a diary of Williams [Misc-MS-1085] describing, possibly in an exaggerated or fictional style, a colonel's journey through the Waikato in 1864."] B. J.
