Silet, el título que Miller ha elegido para este curso significa en latín silencio, y presenta un punto en común entre la pulsión y el analista. Es el silencio de la interpretación, del acto, donde la pulsión hace resonar en su recorrido lo que del goce hace silencio, no solo lo que no puede decirse. Invita a construir a partir de él lo que hay en las entrañas del goce, lo vivo del psicoanálisis, que está en el corazón de su práctica: ?La pulsión infiltra la palabra y esto se capta en el efecto que tiene la pulsión de acallar la palabra, reduciéndola al silencio? A lo largo del curso, menciona a distintos pensadores que Lacan ha leído: Bourbaki, Sartre, Barthes, San Agustín, Hegel, Rochefoucauld, René Daumal, Heidegger, Ella Sharpe, Jakobson, entre otros. En los últimos capítulos, Miller analiza los textos de Merleau-Ponty sobre los cuales Lacan se sustenta para establecer sus diferencias y extraer su invención en relación con el objeto a, escópico.
