First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Amstelodami [Amsterdam], Apud Danielem Elsevirium [Elzevir], 1678. Octavo, 58, 1 (errata) pages with a large woodcut printer's device on the title page. Early vellum slightly warped and marked; small area of loss to the leading edge of the rear cover; bookplate removed from the front pastedown; scattered light foxing; tiny light tidemark to the leading margin of some leaves; trifling signs of use and age; a very good copy. A scarce offprint from the 1679 Elzevir edition of Livy's 'History of Rome' (the second and third volumes bearing the date 1678, as here; not to be confused with the 1678 edition in one volume). With an early printed ownership label of 'M. Jo. Adam Schier' (very likely the 18th-century editor of classical works of that name) on the rear pastedown, and an early annotation (perhaps in his hand) on the verso of the front flyleaf: 'Emi hunc libellum a Meisnero. Wolfenb. 1751. Constat XIV gr.' ['I bought this little book from Meisner, Wolfenbüttel, 1751 .'].
