Er gilt als Begründer der naturwissenschaftlichen Erforschung der Entstehung des Lebens auf der Erde. Biographisches zu Jakob Segal (* 17. April 1911 in Sankt Petersburg, Russisches Kaiserreich; 30. September 1995 in Berlin) war ein Biologe und bis zu seiner Emeritierung der Leiter des Instituts für Allgemeine Biologie an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche Studien über Struktur und Rolle der Proteinmoleküle und der Immunologie. Bekanntheit erlangte er zuletzt durch die mediale Unterstützung seiner Hypothese, das HI-Virus sei nicht natürlichen Ursprungs, sondern in einem amerikanischen Militärlabor mit Mitteln der Gentechnik künstlich erzeugt worden.
