Petr Ivanovich Rychkov (1712, in Vologda - 1777, in Ekaterinburg, now Sverdlovsk) was a Russian scholar & author of works on geography, economics, and history. He was the first corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1759). Rychkov worked in the Orenburg region from the 1730 s. From 1734 to 1737 he took part in the Orenburg Expedition led by I. K. Kirilov and, later, by V. N. Tatishchev. His major work, Orenburg Topography (two parts, 1762), is an explanatory text for the maps of Orenburg Province compiled by I. Krasil nikov in 1755. It is one of the first detailed compilations of a region s history and geography and was of great importance for the birth of economic geography in Russia. Rychkov also wrote on the history, economy, and ethnography of the peoples of the Volga region, the Urals, and the Caspian region. Jacob Rodde (1723 in Moscow - 1789 in Riga) was a German-Baltic official, translator & historian. He found a job as an imperial Russian civil servant. By 1762 he had risen to the rank of collegiate assessor (class 8 of the table of ranks), which was associated with hereditary official nobility. In the late 1660s he left the civil service. He subsequently worked as a secretary and translator for the council of the city of Riga (Secretair und Translateur Eines Hochedlen Raths der Russischenkaiserlichen Stadt Riga) - a position previously held by Christian Friedrich von Völkner, who was also educated in Halle. From 1770 he published a series of translations from Russian. Riga, Latvia Imprint. First German language edition. Original binding. RAREE1772EPQX 02/25 - HK2324.
