Scarce postwar pamphlet constituting the second installment of Jacob Lestschinsky's landmark statistical assessment of the destruction of European Jewry during the Holocaust. Published only a year after the end of World War II, it appeared as Volume I, Number 12 of Jewish Affairs, issued by the Office of Jewish Information of the American Jewish Congress in New York. Drawing upon some of the earliest postwar demographic evidence, Lestschinsky analyzes the catastrophic losses suffered by Jewish communities across Poland, the Soviet Union, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, and other occupied territories, while also documenting the destruction of communal, educational, religious, and cultural institutions. His work became one of the foundational statistical studies used by the Institute of Jewish Affairs and informed early Holocaust scholarship during the Nuremberg era.
